CODA is an outstanding film -- it was my pick for Best Picture of last year. It was incredibly powerful and had me in tears toward the end.

I also liked the West Side Story remake. I thought it was beautifully sung and acted -- the cinematography was outstanding. I did have issues with some of Kushner's dialogue, though -- it didn't ring true to me. All of my Latino family members and friends felt it was phony. A former boyfriend of mine -- he's Puerto Rican, once played a Shark in a Lane Tech High School production of West Side Story, and I had not seen him in over 20 years -- actually sent me a text, complaining that Puerto Ricans never use the word "gringo".

I loved La La Land, one of the best movie musicals with an original score that I have ever seen. I also liked Moonlight, which I saw with my partner who is black. He wasn't as crazy about La La Land as I was.
