I didn't get the impression that Peel is going to be sacrificed, but rather than he has come around to their point of view rather than continuing to question and resist. To continue comparisons to older films and books, it's kind of like Rosemary in Rosemary's Baby. From messages on the other board, the current ending is slightly shorter than in very early 2020 previews. In 2020, Peel, the character played then by Armie Hammer and currently by Noah Reid, takes the blood, smears it on his face also, and joins in the dance. (BroadwayTonyJ, was the longer ending the one done at Steppenwolf or the shorter, more ambiguous one?)

So I think the author intention was that Peel join in, but I think Peel's change of heart is clear when he returns and the others welcome him back and cheer his return. The others seem glad to see him and don't act like they are going to turn on him, and the sacrifice by Carp and in the Wicker Man is of an unwilling participant, which is a bit different. I also think that Peel's conversion is a more interesting play than one in which he is just another victim, although I would say that his conversion occurs off-stage and I don't know if it is set up as well as it could be. It came a bit out of nowhere for me.
