| This comes from a comment I just made below about Victor/Victoria and how I feel it might have been tough for Andrews to compete nightly with her own film performance. But then I started thinking - how many examples are there of a stage musical, translated from a film musical, with the star singing their iconic songs in both? It's much more common for an actor to recreate their musical stage role in a later film adaptation. And there are instances like Anthony Quinn (Zorba) and Sasson Gabay (The Band's Visit) playing the same roles in the musical based on their NON-musical film. Right now the only case of a starring actor playing their musical film role onstage after the film that I can think of is Ted Neeley in tours of JCS. But there must be others I'm not thinking of?? |
