| By the way, Lerner and Loewe DID win a Tony together for Best Score -- it was in 1974 for the stage adaptation of GIGI. That was a nadir of a year artistically, so they kind of won by default. The Tony committee played fast and loose with the rules in the early 1970s trying to justify keeping categories. It was in this era they even allowed shows which were "pre-Broadway" out of town and in previews to be eligible for nominations. |
