If I remember correctly, Chicago opened with Chita Rivera as Roxie, Ute Lemper as Velma and Ben Vereen as Billy. I had a trip planned with my family that fell through but went a few months after. Stephanie Pope had taken over for Lemper, but the show was fantastic. It was indeed two acts with intermission. I also caught Mamma Mia! at the same theatre. It also played with an intermission with no cuts.
I sadly missed Notre Dame de Paris (I’m a sucker for Euro-pop musicals), but I understand it was heavily abridged. It’s not for everyone, but it certainly wasn’t Vegas material. At least it played the Paris. Phantom strangely played at the Venetian.
Years before I also saw the abridged version of Starlight Express out at the LV Hilton. It’s always been a mixed bag of full productions and abridged versions. I always assumed it was to get folks back in the casinos ASAP, but I’m not sure. |
