It works better as an off-Broadway play... how it was written for one!
I saw the original during previews at the Orpheum ( had missed it at WPA ). Nobody will ever top Ellen Greene! We had plant leaves dangling over our heads at the finale ( bet insurance costs took care of that stunt ) and outside the theater was a real Skid Row!
Also was at Howard Ashman memorial at that same theater in 1991 ( I am stunned how the time sped by ).
