Typically, shows have an Associate Director and Associate Choreographer who “stay” with the show to note & maintain the show, run understudy rehearsals, and rehearse in new company members.

So, it’s usually a combination of the Associate Director & Choreographer, Music Supervisor, Stage Management team, and Dance Captains.

Occasionally, top-billed directors will come back to rehearse or note the show, and sometimes will rehearse new cast members if there is a “star” replacement, or a major turnover among the principal cast.
