| WTF. The good... Seven singers. With arrangements that I generally enjoyed. The orchestra is probably 12 people. The gas station by Williamstown is the cheapest I’ve seen in the Berkshires. I think it would make an entertaining concert at a place like 54 Below. The Staging...???? Show starts with the gold Mylar car wash curtain. Some of the singers sit at the back if the stage ,some hidden, by an otherwise bare stage. First song is Ow My Feet…but there’s rarely a break between songs. There does not seem to be any story, and I don’t think and singer is assigned the songs for a character. Genders/pronouns in all the songs don't seem to have been changed. The Mylar curtain at certain points rises and falls. At some points it rises high above the stage…sometimes spinning above the stage. At one point it rose above the stage, but Mylar strands were entangled in some mic cords. A crew person came out and untangled them… carrying off a huge ball of Mylar. Mary Testa sometimes in an office chair in the back corner. Sometimes she lies in the floor. At one point I couldn’t see who was singing,,,later realizing one of the singers was on a balcony overlooking the stage . The cast begins in streetwear. As the show moves on, the women end up in gold dresses. Except for the two that end up not wearing them by the end of the show. For the last song, the spinning Mylar curtain comes low enough that it keeps washing over the performers, now all lined up on benches. Curtain call is the singers. Then the crew. Then the orchestra walking in the stage. (Not sure where they were for the performance, but I think there’s a pit in that theater.) A lot of..??? |
