Go see Man of God it is a thrilling play, funny, tense, moving and always scary. 4 Korean-American female high school students on a 'Christian' mission to Bangkok with their minister. The girls are in a hotel room. Very much a hothouse atmosphere. Inciting incident: they find a small hidden camera in the bathroom... It ends run on Friday. If you can, go. if not, it is going to be around for a long long time.
Most Happy in Concert. Well sung. Orchestrations created for this show and they are good - not a reduction. You see everything including the crew as they their jobs. Sometimes it is interesting; mostly I watched them doing stuff pulling my focus from the singer. If you put Mary Testa into a desk chair upstage far right and think she's invisible, you'd be wrong. She isn't pulling focus. She's sitting there but it's Mary Testa!!!
Simply, fine singers, some really terrific singing. Loesser's great songs. And things going up and down and benches moved by the crew, costumes changed on and off stage. I liked it but there is a question of focus or is that f**k us. |
