| I pretty much agree with you about the production surrounding Rylance's Richard whose performance I loved watching. My favorite out of the five or six productions I've seen (which all had excellent things about them) was, mea culpa, Kevin Spacey. He made you love him in all his sleazy, freakish villainy. And it had direction by Sam Mendes who knows how to nail down every narrative point his production is making. Not my favorite director but a play like Richard III needs the kind of rhythmic shorthand Mendes provided. The history you're mentioning above was missing and I don't think I've ever seen a production that spelled that out but it would be great to see. |
