I was able to catch the Thurs. matinee of Subways Are for Sleeping on 3/1/2018 at the York. The Styne-Comden & Green score is really excellent. Every song works. Like you, I definitely missed "I Said It and I'm Glad". I don't understand why they cut it. If my recollection is correct, the Mufti performance had a running time of just 2 hours.
I guess I'm in the minority -- on ATC anyway -- because I think Isobel Lennart's book for Funny Girl is pretty solid and doesn't need a major revision to make the show work. Believe it or not, there are some respected theatre historians who hold the same opinion.
I agree that "A Temporary Arrangement" is just a serviceable musical number. However, when I saw this revival on Fri., 4/15/2022, Ramin Karimloo did a great job with the song. In fact, his performance of it stopped the show. Just saying. Nevertheless, I hope things work out with Lea and Julie. I would like to re-visit the show if I can wrangle a trip to New York in November. |
