Based on what I've read and what Daniel Fish has said - my understanding is that this isn't claiming to be a concert version of The Most Happy Fella - it's the songs from The Most Happy Fella in concert, with new arrangements. There are no characters - there's no script (the billing is simply Music and Lyrics by Frank Loesser - no mention of a book). Fish himself says that he thinks of it like a cover album of songs from the show - and that it is most definitely not a production of the Most Happy Fella or the story of Most Happy Fella.
So it sounds to me very unlike the production of 1776 or indeed an Encores production. I imagine it to be not too dissimilar to NYTW's What's It All About - although obviously those songs were from across the Bacharach cannon and not just one show.
I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has seen it whether anything in the staging reflects the story of The Most Happy Fella - even just as an homage. |
