Thanks, Wayman, for filling in details. My first Durang memory was seeing “Sister Mary” in Hollywood, paired with “The Actor’s Nightmare.” I wasn’t out yet, and Sister Mary blew me away, because it dared to go where institutionalized homophobia will end up, if taken to extremes (as a side note, that’s why recent US Supreme Court opinions are so worrying, because they are just a step away from where Durang went in “Sister Mary.”
I also enjoyed “Miss Witherspoon,” which I read with a play-reading group at my church. It covers a lot of territory, but in such a smart way. And, “Vanya, et al.” is such a classic. Have seen full productions a couple of times, and they always satisfy.
