The article presumes some fantasy narrative that “word of mouth” kept pushing the show forward. Yet any perfunctory weekly review of the revenue told the real story: even a stellar Tony performance couldn’t generate enough sales to break even. The show was under a death watch from the moment the reviews were posted. The myth of a widening audience continues, and even a half a million made the final week didn’t meet the nut.
