That's interesting because Phyllis Newman was actually present in the audience when I saw the show. Jim Morgan introduced her during his remarks before the performance.
Despite her opinion, for productions like Mufti and Encores where the score tends to be highlighted over the book, audiences want to hear all the songs they know from the show. I think the York production should have included "I Said It and I'm Glad" because it's a very good song. It tells us a lot about Angie's character. I wanted to hear it sung in the context of the show so I could fully appreciate it. Oh well, we can't always get what we want. |
