| On the OCR of "Subways", I find "I've Said It and I'm Glad" to be probably the best and most exciting vocal showcase of Carol Lawrence in the show. I'm not sure of how things got between Lawrence and Newman during the show personally, but word was that Newman (who won the Tony over Barbra Streisand for "I Can Get It for You Wholesale") and Orson Bean were stealing the show from above the title stars Carol Lawrence and Sydney (Nicky Arnstein, Nicky Arnstein) Chaplin. Newman only had 2 numbers on the OCR, too. But they still have great impact when your hear them! Maybe removing Lawrence's big number was a form of subtle revenge years later? I think it's a great song. Also not helping the show were reports that Lawrence and Chaplin didn't like one another, and it was kind of apparent in their chemistry together and their performances. |
