FAR AWAY LANDS, A VICIOUS QUEEN, GHOSTS, AND DRAGONS ABOUND IN THIS FANTASTICAL, MAGICAL ADULT FAIRY TALE THAT BRINGS OUT THE CHILD IN EVERYONE

(New York, NY) – The Near Disaster of Jasper & Casper, a fantastical new solo show and magical adult fairy tale bursting with imagination and adventure, will light up the New York stage this Summer in a limited engagement, Off-Broadway run at Theater Row’s Theater Five. Written and performed by Jason Woods and Directed by Michelle Svenson Kindy, the production begins previews on Wednesday, August 24 th and will continue through Sunday, September 18th. In The Near Disaster of Jasper & Casper, Jasper feels quite different from the people around him and sets out on a quest for his true family. Along the way, he discovers a blunt witch, a mysterious, articulate dragon, and a purpose he never expected. As Jasper gets closer to the truth, he confronts his own fears, his brother Casper’s self-obsession, and a heartbreaking path to his own destiny. Award-winning actor Jason Woods morphs into each character with rapid-fire dexterity and heartfelt authenticity on a fantastical adventure for the child in everyone. Ghosts, magic, and Deadly Cows abound in The Near-Disaster of Jasper & Casper.

“The Near Disaster of Jasper & Casper is a swift and wonderful helping of escapism that leaves you feeling joyful,” says director Michelle Svenson Kindy. “Audiences will experience a fairytale full of twists and turns. It’s sheer summer fun and a whimsical yet grown-up ride that goes by in a blink!”

Set design is by Dave Ferdinand, lighting design is by Reilly Ryan, and sound design is by Michelle Silva. Costumes are by Nicole Labadie. The Production Stage Manager is Lora Christl.

Performances are on Tuesdays – Saturdays at 7:30PM. Matinee performances are on Saturdays and Sundays at 2:00PM.

Jason Woods is a director, actor, composer, and writer who has been producing independent theater around Northeast Florida, South Georgia, New York, and beyond for the last decade. Theater credits include: Beethoven, 33 Variations by Moises Kauffman (5 & Dime Theatre), Thomas Cromwell in Wolf Hall (Theatre Jacksonville), The Mad Hatter, Alice in Wonderland (ABET), and A Christmas Carol, Woods’ solo show, now in its 10th year. He most recently performed The Near Disaster of Jasper & Casper at the United Solo International Theatre Festival in New York City where he was awarded Best Actor.

Michelle Svenson Kindy (Director) is originally from Ontario and has lived and worked in several major cities across Canada. She currently serves as the General Manager at Theatre Jacksonville where she’s lived for the past 25 years. Theatre Jacksonville’s productions of Love Quest and Hilda’s Yard, and The 5 and Dime Theatre Company’s production of John Coffey Refuses to Save The World are among her favorite directing credits. She was also the associate producer for The Sisters of St. Joseph: A Legacy of Faith, a documentary for PBS.

Vaccination Requirements: All patrons 5 & older must be fully vaccinated 14 days prior to their performance date. Proof of vaccination must be accompanied by a valid photo ID (valid ID for ages 5-18 do not need to include a photo). Once a child turns 5, they will have up to 45 days from their date of birth to be fully vaccinated. There are no vaccination requirements for ages 4 and under.
