I typed this up as a reply a half hour or so ago, but didn't post it:

Nothing, really. One of a bunch of reasons why the show doesn't play well today, although trying to fix it is pointless. It cannot be fixed. It is what it is.

The show is too advanced and modern in feel and point of view to be enjoyed as a fun, mindless relic but it is not dramatically coherent enough to hold up on that level. It is a transitional work.

Actually, I think "Zip" is among the least of the problems with the show because it is presented frankly as a fun, satirical song having nothing to do with anything and sung by an otherwise pretty minor character. (Well, I didn't finish that sentence till posting this. Earlier, I stopped after "least" and left the sentence unfinished.)
