And yes, the "sensitive, clever, etc" stuff does repeat... that's the point. We get to hear what she wants from a man/partner, in the dream of a prince and in what she sees her husband's colors to be.
But we still get both of those aspects very clearly from the music that does exist. When the Baker's Wife sings it in "It Takes Two," we KNOW it's also her dream of what a Prince might be, considering that we saw her witnessing Cinderella's Prince sing the line earlier. I think keeping the reference more concise is better writing overall. (And we're still going to geta repeat of that musical line later in the "Agony" reprise as well.)
As far as "A Very Nice Prince" and its reprise (AND its culmination in "On The Steps Of The Palace") go, I think it's proportionally right the way it is. And the first time through, Cinderella is really not wanting to open up that much to BW as it is, so the longer the song and the more questions BW tries to ask, the less realistic it starts to seem. I also don't think that "A Very Nice Prince" is a "song song" in any case - it's sung dialogue. The true song payoff to that musical theme is "On The Steps Of The Palace." |
