I appreciate the expectation of all six stars appearing (and hope to see most of them on 8/16), as the DNA of the event. Yet isn't this production's praise as tied to its deconstruction of the material? With its focus on the score and the storytelling's innate power without effects or spectacle, a factory reset of sorts? If not Our Town like minimalism, stylized to strip away literalized magic beyond the plotting's turns. Most reviews claimed exhilaration comes from placing the piece's values front and center. Maybe because I've seen so many covers this unique season -- for two leads in Mockingbird, three principals in Girl from the North Country, the standby/de facto alternate for Strange Loop, an actor with a script in hand in Morning's at Seven -- I've become used to the new normal. Yes, I'm always disappointed, no lie. And then I invariably settle back and marvel at how rich the B'way community of actors truly is.
