I suppose Lin-Manuel Miranda could have just created a version of 1776 cast with Black and Latino actors instead of writing Hamilton. I’m really glad he wrote Hamilton.
A new musical about the founding fathers starring a non-binary cast challenging the patriarchy would be intriguing. Imposing that concept on an enjoyable but middle of the road musical like 1776 seems odd. I don’t know that this particular show can bear the weight of such a rethinking.
