The '49 On the Town film kept about 3 of the original songs and parts of 2 ballets by Bernstein and Comden & Green.
The '39 On Your Toes movie got rid of all the Rodgers-Hart songs and kept just the ballets. The '48 Mexican Hayride film ditched Cole Porter's complete score.
I recently discovered a 2020 restored DVD of the '43 This Is the Army film of Berlin's Broadway revue. I was shocked to discover it contains the entire score plus a few songs from Yip Yip Yiphank and a performance of "God Bless America" with all the verses by Kate Smith. Quite unique for a 40's film of a Broadway show. |
