We have a bunch of window cards and other Broadway posters, and over the years I’ve noticed that roughly half of them list the theater’s actual address. But the others (if the location applies) say “West of Broadway.” Like: Mark Hellinger Theater 51st Street West of Broadway.
Just curious when and why this became a standard wayfinding expression for so many theaters, for so many years.
And have you ever seen “East of Broadway,” for the Belasco, Lyceum, etc.? |
