I don’t have an answer based in any fact, but these days it’s very easy to pop a street address into google maps and find specific directions/ intersections.
I’d wager more folks pre-internet could more easily identify (and without a map) where “51st St West of Broadway” was more easily than, say, “241 W 51st St.” |
