You want a gender bending show, then create one. Be original.
But then it would also be all too easy to say "you want an all-black show, then create one. Be original." And yet, the Pearl Bailey/Cab Calloway Hello Dolly was a huge huge success. And the all-black Guys And Dolls did pretty well too.
There's also the all-female The Odd Couple which has done very well for itself. For a smaller scale musical, I would also think that Nunsense A-Men gets done pretty often. And I'm sure this has been done successfully with other shows too. It's really not such a pearl-clutching abomination when it's done well. |
