Maybe applause has change in general? Is it because of American Idol audience response, wherein there’s an element of screaming/cheerleading that is included. It’s not just applause as appreciation. It’s applause as audience wanting to claim credit for the song that was just performed. Like, “Woo-hoo! We are here whooping for you because without us you wouldn’t have been able to do this! We’re your FANS!!!”

And it’s a little like when Liza’s in concert and people scream out “we love you.” The decibel level of the response is to urge you on.

It’s different from what I’m used to. But it’s not bad. It’s also a little as if there are a lot of family and friends in the audience.
