| I see lots of shows in London and the atmosphere is neither stuffy nor rarified but there is not the sort of shrieking and hollering that accompanies most Broadway shows. People listen and laugh and applaud at the curtain call. (Similarly the energy at Off-Broadway theatres still feels thoughtful and reserved.) Mass culture has always had monster truck rallies, AC/DC concerts and Trump rallies. I appreciate having the theatre as a refuge from that din. |
