| Having seen the show on Broadway, I can assure the original poster that there wasn't a great performance in the bunch. The material wasn't there. But taking a cue from what Bruce said, I would say that "performance" and "material" are not the same thing at all. The original cast was full of quite capable performers (to say the least) - I mean, Roger Bart, Chris Fitzgerald, Shuler Hensley (who I'm sure was a scream), Megan Mullally, Sutton Foster, and certainly Andrea Martin as Blucher - that's one hell of a group - and I'm sure they all gave quite capable performances. Really hard to imagine a better cast, IMO. That's a very different thing than saying the material they were given wasn't strong enough. Unless, CCentero, you're really not just being your usual contrary self, and really mean that none of those actors gave good performances. I'm not sure I can believe that. |
