I was also at that performance. It was a wonderful afternoon in the theater. I don't remember DHP getting a different reception than the others but I don't really remember how any of them were received; was there a difference because of differences in the manner of their entrances? The audience were clearly fans of DHP (and everyone else).

The thing I most remember about that performance is that, at the end of the Western number, Noah Racey's throw of the hat to Karen Ziemba had adrenaline to it, and she could barely reach it and had to bobble a bit before holding it up triumphantly! The Broadway cast was fantastic. I saw the show in a regional production and the show's issues were much more evident.

I also remember that I got to meet Rupert Holmes that day; he was very kind and signed for everyone at the stage door after the show. I happened to see him after my performance of the Roundabout revival of Drood; it was an "ordinary" performance well into the run, so maybe he came a lot. I really enjoy his work, and I hope another of his shows makes it to Broadway soon.

bmc, thanks for prompting some nice memories! What made you think about Curtains today?
