| Ah, Chromolume, you're smart enough to know the answer to your own question. YF "needed" to be written because The Producers had won a slew of awards and made a ton of money. Period. I did see the show and thought it competent, if not inspired. I suppose the songs could have attempted to add "depth" to the show, but its characters are not of the "depth" sort and its plot is really an excuse for jokes and gags. There's nothing wrong with that, but it leaves little room for improvement or new surprise via the score. Besides, there may have been a clear attempt not to stray too far from the iconic source material for fear of disappointing audiences. |
