| It ain’t going anywhere. It’s doing better than most new musicals like MJ and Moulin Rouge. I would have bet against this show succeeding. | |

| Me too. I thought it would just about manage to play out its eight weeks and would close at a total or nearly total loss. It seemed a very foolish move. I wuz wrong! | |

| When we talk about post-pandemic theatre-going, in addition to recognizing that some people are not/will not go back inside a theatre and that has some effect. But another variable that we have discussed here is that some people are willing to go back but only for shows that are "feel good." I think that's a significant factor here. Then, of course, there is Sondheim's death and the reviews don't hurt either. But my pre-transfer bet would probably have been the same as yours. | |

| ...perhaps bigger than even those reasons is the treasured place that musical plays in a lot of Gen X and millennial theatregoers' formative years. So many of us grew up on endless repeats of the filmed production on Bravo and A&E, and, then, for many of us, when our high school or college produced the show. It was my first proper introduction to Sondheim. I imagine the same is true for many people. You never forget your first. ;) |
