In reply to: National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene announces the return of Fiddler on the Roof in Yiddish, November 13-January 1 at New World Stages - Official_Press_Release 09:53 am EDT 07/25/22

I was over the moon about this production when I saw it on Broadway for its brief transfer run. I wanted more people to be able to see it. I'll definitely be seeing it again and bringing people.

As I'm sure we all have, I've seen many iterations of Fiddler, but none of them grabbed me emotionally the way this production did, which I saw in both of its NYC venues. I urged many friends to go, and they all reported back with similar feelings.

And added to the news is the fact that Steven Skybell will again be playing Tevye. Until I saw his performance, I thought that Herschel Bernardi had been the best I've seen, but IMO Skybell topped his performance.

I'm jealous you got to see Bernardi do it!

But yes, I agree, even if I've never seen one of the *great* Tevyes live before... I saw Molina and Fierstein in the 2000s revival... I liked both enough, but neither were quite as good in the role live as Skybell. And I didn't make it to the Bart Sher revival... seemed like a standard revival with an unexciting casting choice (he's great but I'm not quite a big a fan of his as so many in the way fan community).

My sense of the role mainly comes from the original cast album and from the movie (which I've seen many times).

This production never was on Broadway, briefly or otherwise. It played a lengthy run at Stage 42 after the original run at the Museum of Jewish Heritage.

My mistake. Whatever it was, it was a transfer to a bigger theater, in the Broadway district, and I saw it.
