Is 100 a trigger for a different union contract? I think 500 is a trigger.

Yes, 100 seats is a trigger as well. Technically anything between 100-499 seats is Off Broadway, while 99 and under is Off Off Broadway. The one specific contract I know of that is the relevant is the AEA showcase code, which requires productions to be in houses with 99 seats or less (which occasionally is accomplished by covering up seats). There are more showcase code restrictions as well- only can run for 16 performances, etc. There may be other AEA contracts for which 100 seats is a distinction but this is one of the big ones.

99 is or at least used to be called a mini-contract which was technically not part of the off-B contract. The showcase code is not a contract at all, but 99 is the magic number for that. Additionally, the off-B contract has different tiers, with different pay levels, tied, at least in part, to the number of seats and those tiers are based on n99 seats. And yes this all tops out at 499, so long as the venue is within the Broadway Box or otherwise contractually treated as Broadway..

There's also still an Equity Mini contract which is for less than 99 seats, but is still considered off-Broadway, since it follows the off-Broadway contract with all its rules and with a 95% minimum salary of the tier with at least 100 seats. That is different from a showcase code which, for the most part, pays carfare reimbursement for the actors and maybe a few other expenses, but no guaranteed salary.
