| Agree about Inglehart being chosen for Nathan. I thought immediately that he was a better choice for Nicely Nicely. I thought Nathan Lane was a perfect choice for the role of Nathan. Nathan Lane being compared to Sinatra is a bit misguided, I think, seeing as Sinatra was originally thought of for the Sky role and was miscast as Nathan in the film, IMHO. Also, let's not forget that it was Sam Levine that was the original Nathan and he had that "schlubby" New York Runyonesque persona that I think Nathan Lane delivered in the revival. | |

| Laurence Olivier is on record somewhere declaring that Sam Levene’s work as Nathan Detroit was a phenomenal lesson in acting. I cd see Phil Silvers doing great, too. I never saw Nathan Lane, and I’m sure he was adorable, but there’s something about Nathan Detroit that is so in touch with the ordinary, so wheeler-dealer, such a realist. He shouldn’t be polished. |

| I agree that Sinatra should have played Sky in the Guys and Dolls film. Someone like Phil Silvers would have been better casting as Nathan in the film. | |

| Would love to have seen Phil Silvers as Nathan Detroit - that would have been great casting. His would have been a perfect match with Adelaide. | |

| Silvers would have been perfect. I don't like the film version of Guys and Dolls at all, it's lifeless and the solid individual elements it contains never come together. I love Sinatra, but once his Oscar establlshed that he was "back,' he was usually more about the business of being Sinatra than anything else. I'm glad he walked off the set of Carousel a year later. |

| I've read that Loesser hated the casting of SInatro so much that he went to his grave not seeing the film. | |

| sinatra didn't take kindly to Loesser's 'coaching' him on how to sing a particular musical phrase; that was at the start of the film and they didn't speak after that. | |
