A good interview, yes. But I look back on his time as artistic director at Reprise! and shudder at the memory of the “updated” DAMN YANKEES—with the 1980s Dodgers replacing the Senators, and the entirely botched FANTASTICKS, with the Mute making goo-goo eyes at El Gallo, a stuffed cat with purplish sparkly material on in (“raspberry jam all over the cat”), and a Mom for Matt to end up with Luisa’s Dad.
