I've been a longtime fan of his work, too. I've seen James in so many shows: ''Titanic,'' ''Sweet Smell of Success,'' ''Giant,'' ''Hamilton,'' etc.

I even once had the honor of interviewing him for Playbill after he succeeded Norbert Leo Butz in ''Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.''

In my ideal alternate universe, James got to originate the role of Dan in ''Next to Normal'' on Broadway, and won his Tony Award.

(And, yes, I first saw James do it Off-Broadway at Second Stage (2008), with Alice Ripley and Aaron Tveit. That was the perfect cast!)
