I'm so glad Elton won the Tony (and Grammy) for it. I love many of its songs: ''I Know the Truth,'' ''My Strongest Suit,'' ''Elaborate Lives'' ...
On the other hand, I found his score to ''Billy Elliot,'' with Lee Hall's lyrics, blah. And I saw the show 3 times, so I could catch each of the Billys.
I actually prefer a couple of Elton's songs from ''Lestat'' (with lyrics by Bernie Taupin): like ''Right Before My Eyes'' and ''Sail Me Away.''
Hugh Panaro sounded sensational on those solos, and I heard a cast album was made of ''Lestat,'' but it's never been released.
Hugh sang a song from ''Lestat'' for our ''Leading Men II'' benefit for Broadway Cares, & included a touching tribute to fellow actor J.C. Sheets. |
