| lately I've been listening to the HAPPY TIME' Goulet's singing is 'extraordinaire' . Kander/Ebb's songs include some of their best. And they generously gave 2 back to back showstoppers to David Wayne, | |

| Love the cast recording and the Tony performance. Brent Barrett sings a beautiful solo version of “Seeing Things” in his terrific Kander & Ebb album. | |

| One of my favorite Kander and Ebb scores. Such beautiful ballads. I saw the show when I was … well, much younger … and I remember both Goulet and Wayne being incredibly charismatic, each in his own way. The show itself, and even Champion’s staging, seemed dwarfed in the cavernous Broadway theater. The show tells an intimate story that would have been better served by a smaller house. But I still listen to the score, and it gets me every time. | |

| I saw the original Broadway production and was both moved and thoroughly entertained by the show. Both at the time and still now, I really disagree with the oft-mentioned idea that the use of projections hurt the show by taking the focus away from the story. I think they enriched it, especially since the central character is a photographer who for much of the show is reflecting on images and memories from his past. If anything, that element of the production was somewhat groundbreaking or "before its time", given the wide use of photographic and video images in current set and lighting designs. I also thought Champion's choreography and staging were excellent, especially in the "Without Me" and "Life of the Party" numbers. |

| There is a great deal of detail about the production of this show in the Gower Champion biography "Before the Parade Passes By". It's quite a fascinating read, as Champion was struggling with technology that just wasn't there yet, somewhat losing the show in the process. I wish I had seen it. The book is full of great history of Gower and Marge Champion's early years, his approach to choreography as a form of storytelling and how that developed into his Broadway career. | |

| I, too, have always been a fan of THE HAPPY TIME; the score is a beauty, and Goulet, Wayne, and Rupert were all terrific. The show wasn't perfect, but I always found the songs and the story combine to make THE HAPPY TIME a very touching musical, with a genuine warmth. Would love to see Encores do this show. |

| I've never seen this show, but among my favorite Kander & Ebb songs are ''The Happy Time,'' ''I Don't Remember You'' and ''A Certain Girl.'' | |

| Those three songs are among my favorites. Another one is "Walking Among My Yesterdays." I don't recall how this happened, but I definitely went backstage and met Goulet in his dressing room after the show. I didn't have any connections that would get me backstage, but have the vague recollection that he was doing that on occasions. Several other people were there and he was quite pleasant to everyone. |

| I loved this show. I saw it when I was still in high school. Goulet and Wayne were both wonderful and so was the direction and choreography. And a very young Michael Rupert stopped the show! | |

| There was a third number for Grandpere which was cut but it was added for Ray Bolger when he did the show in stock. | |

| I saw this show pre-Broadway at the L.A. Music Center and loved it so much I saw twice. I remember Champion's use of beautiful projections in a time when this was not so common in the theater and Goulet's beautiful voice. (He won a well-deserved Tony for his performance.) I also remember a controversy in L.A. about the replacement of the leading lady. I don't think the authors, composers, and Champion could solve the challenges of how to deal with this thankless role, so they fired the actress and hired a replacement. I saw both ladies and think the problem was not in the casting. . . . . | |

| I also saw the tryout in Los Angeles and loved it. It is one of the few cast albums that I had in my collection, and I can still sing some of the songs. I was sad when it wasn’t a hit in New York. Bill, heading to Bayreuth today in hopes of scoring one ticket to Tannhäuser |
