| There was a third number for Grandpere which was cut but it was added for Ray Bolger when he did the show in stock. | |

| I saw this show pre-Broadway at the L.A. Music Center and loved it so much I saw twice. I remember Champion's use of beautiful projections in a time when this was not so common in the theater and Goulet's beautiful voice. (He won a well-deserved Tony for his performance.) I also remember a controversy in L.A. about the replacement of the leading lady. I don't think the authors, composers, and Champion could solve the challenges of how to deal with this thankless role, so they fired the actress and hired a replacement. I saw both ladies and think the problem was not in the casting. . . . . | |

| I also saw the tryout in Los Angeles and loved it. It is one of the few cast albums that I had in my collection, and I can still sing some of the songs. I was sad when it wasn’t a hit in New York. Bill, heading to Bayreuth today in hopes of scoring one ticket to Tannhäuser |
