| I saw this show pre-Broadway at the L.A. Music Center and loved it so much I saw twice. I remember Champion's use of beautiful projections in a time when this was not so common in the theater and Goulet's beautiful voice. (He won a well-deserved Tony for his performance.) I also remember a controversy in L.A. about the replacement of the leading lady. I don't think the authors, composers, and Champion could solve the challenges of how to deal with this thankless role, so they fired the actress and hired a replacement. I saw both ladies and think the problem was not in the casting. . . . . |
