This puts me in mind of the show I saw this weekend at Arena Stage, “American Prophet,” a bio-musical about Frederick Douglass.
In the second act Abraham Lincoln is a character, and he leads big anthem-like, full-company numbers. If ever a character “doesn’t want to sing,” I think it’s Lincoln… |
