| There was nothing underrated about this terrible musical. Inane lyrics. Completely awful music devoid of any authentic theatrical purpose. I'll stop...this NY Times article was like overhearing a guest at the next table at Joe Allen's lamenting about the early closing of "Marilyn, The Musical." "But it had that one great song that Willy Falk sang!" | |

| Diana was schlock but if someone wants to enjoy it, I’m okay with that. It was like the movie of that feline show. If people want to dress up like cats to howl at the moon, I won’t stop them. But the NYT Arts section used to be a barometer of cultural tastes in one of the most important art-creation cities in the world. I rarely find that to be the case anymore. Clickbait articles based on moldy, mediocre shows and movies are becoming the norm. I will say, I have loved the Legally Blonde score since 2007 and it has stayed in my rotation in the fifteen years since it’s debut. As Chaz pointed out, it won deserved accolades back then. It may not be the best show ever written but it has brains and heart which Diana did not. As Elle Woods would say if she read this article, “I may be in love, But I'm not stupid, lady I've got eyes” omigod you guys |

And "Serious" - the best song in the show IMO, is very clever in its setup and execution. The rest of it...well, I adore Bat Boy, which just has so much more substance. And (and I say this as a musician yet), the songs in Bat Boy don't all sound generically the same as so many of them do, to me, in Blonde. But I'd definitely choose Blonde over Diana. Even if stuff like "Bend And Snap" and "Gay Or European" just make me cringe. |

| Yeah. Just to chime in, I am not the biggest Legally Blonde fan, and not one of those who has decided it is one of the great modern musical. I do think songs like Omigod You Guys is way better written and more clever and infectious than I ever expected, and it has some really good songs... and some really mediocre ones. I actually think it's pretty overrated and has enjoyed, also, a very rose-colored view since in closed, especially from the younger generation of gays (at least the ones on twitter). But I was pretty offended on behalf of the authors of LB, the fans of it, and the observers of observable reality when I saw this "critic" put it in the same category of show as Diana... so I wanted to make the differences clear. | |
