I think it's fair to say that this show is an exception to that rule. It got not only lots of free press at the time, mostly bad, and it even had a full on film that proved to be fatally bad publicity. I don't begrudge you or anyone else their reactions to shows, but that does not license the rose-colored glasses you're looking at this through.
