“ It often appears as if ''Memphis'' isn't given enough credit for overcoming the odds and all its obstacles. ”

Everything you say is, as always, accurate, and you had me right up until the last paragraph; that said (and not to take anything away from your enjoyment of a show you’ve long been on the record for appreciating, and more power to you on that), I’d argue it’s a little meaningless to list all the awards Memphis won without full context, simply because it was by all standards (even if you LOVE Memphis), an extraordinarily weak year. You did mention that there were nearly a dozen shows that season, and I’m not saying it “lucked out” – people obviously had to vote for it over the competition – but that doesn’t change the fact that it won Best Musical over 3 literal (and mediocre) jukebox shows.

1985 (when the Tonys did away with several categories) and 1995 (when there were only 2 nominees for Best Musical) are the only two seasons in the last half-century that I think are universally considered to be worse than 2010. But overall, I take your point that Memphis sometimes doesn’t get its due.
