At least with Into the Woods, I think the producers have been pretty up front about the possibility that cast members might be leaving after the original closing date in mid-August, making sure to say something like "casting will be announced at a future date" and not including any cast member's name in the extension announcement. But it's always disappointing when an actor you want to see isn't there.
What I find really irritating is something like what happened with Farinelli and the King, when the producers made a big deal that the entire London cast was coming to Broadway, apparently knowing full well the entire time that one of the cast members was leaving a little more than 3 weeks after opening night. Or shows announcing people are leaving less than a week before their final performance, or in some cases not until after their final performance is over. |
