As replacement casts go, this one is pretty spiffy! I imagine that there'll be a lot of repeat business for this production.
It's a different world entirely than the one into which the Encores! CHICAGO emerged a quarter century ago, but I wonder if this bare bones concert-revival might last a little while? The material is appealing to the creme de la creme of the musical theatre world and there's even a starry cameo for a veteran who doesn't need to be a boffo singer. (Dick Cavett pulled it off, so who else could be called upon?)
I'm not suggesting twenty-five years of beanstalks and rutabagas, but maybe a couple of years? Something to wish for..... |
