From Shakespeare to Molière to da Ponte, it is the wise and observant servant who comments on the antics of the nobs. This fits perfectly and it is at the right moment. Send in the Clowns is, of course, a show stopper but the show ain't over. Similarly, who sings Sit Down You're Rockin' the Boat? Makes perfect sense. JG IS WRONG.
