To me, Howells was the breakout star of ''It's a Sin,'' Russell Davies' miniseries about AIDS in the '80s. And he won the Welsh BAFTA for Best Actor.

Besides ''She Loves Me,'' his stage credits include: ''Oliver!,'' ''Prodigy'' and Gary Owens' ''Romeo and Julie'' at the Royal National Theatre in London.

(At 23, however, Howells might be one of the youngest to play the Emcee in a professional production of ''Cabaret.'')
