Yeah. Of course producers have absolutely no way of knowing how long there will be enough box office demand to keep the show running at cost or profit... but they have to ensure the cast is locked in (relatively speaking) if it does run. I mean... shows close in 2 months, the cast of those shows aren't contracted on a week-to-week basis until they see if it's a hit... they are contracted for like 6/9/12 months, and if it closes before then, it closes.

Frankly, I think much more than Into the Woods, this Funny Girl might only survive if it plugs in 2 to 3 (or even 4) exciting new actors in the "lead" roles every 4 months or so. I think there are quite a lot of people who active would not buy a ticket to see Lea Michele just for the accusations of racism and bullying, who would absolutely buy a ticket if Anna Kendrick, or Amber Riley (I know, neither are Jewish - but neither is Jane Lynch), or Rachel Bloom who's Jewish and hilarious and sings at least as well as Beanie but has babies that might keep her from being in a show, or Hailee Steinfeld who is Jewish but is probably too big or busy to do it, or Evan Rachel Wood who is Jewish but seems the wrong fit, but who knows... ha.
That's the trouble... there can't be THAT much interest in this musical, but also they have very few options of name stars who fit the role and are funny and can sing and sell tickets.
