| Mary Rodgers's book is a delectable read and Jesse Green's footnotes are wonderfully helpful--except when he weighs in occasionally with his own snarky comments, as on p. 250 where he says, "With its jolly whores and penguin ballet, Irma La Douce is a creepy stinker." That's not Mary's opinion, apparently; it's Jesse's. Sometimes it's hard to sort out whose snarkiness is whose. |
